LAND FAQ's
Where is the land?
The land is located near the intersection of 136th Street and Petty Road with frontage on both Petty Road and 136th Street. The land has excellent visibility from I-35.
Is the land in the City of Kearney?
When we bought the land it was located in the jurisdiction of Clay County, but with a Kearney address. Now, it has been annexed by the City of Kearney.
How do you get there?
From the north: Coming from Studio 320, take Hwy 92 east to Hwy 33 south. Turn right on 19th Street. Turn left on Petty Road (just across railroad tracks). Petty Road winds around until you end up at 136th and Petty.
From the south: Take Hwy 33 north to 130th Street. Turn left on 130th Street (Holmes Creek area) until it becomes 128th Street. Turn right on Petty Road and continue north to 136th Street.
Why buy 20 acres?
We have a vision of reaching at least 1,000 people in the Kearney/Holt/Northland area. We need 10 acres to accomplish this goal (100 people per acre for building plus parking). We want to have enough room to have athletic fields through which we can serve the community. We also anticipate the potential of losing some of our land to a new I-35 off-ramp currently planned to come across the northern edge of our property. Finally, if we purchase less than 20 acres, the land must be rezoned. Buying 20 acres saves us money in rezoning fees and lots of hassle with the planning and zoning department.
What kind of building do we plan to build?
We have had to adjust our original plans to fit our budget. Our current plans for Phase One will include a worship area, classrooms, restrooms, and a foyer/lobby.
How soon will we begin building?
The Kearney Planning Commission and the City of Kearney have approved our plans. January 27th, 2008, the local congregation voted unanimously to move ahead with Phase One. On January 31st, the Kansas City District approved our project. We are planning a ground breaking service on Sunday, March 16th, 2008.
